Burrell Goes for 424, Knights Come Up Short Against Central Georgia Tech, 27–18

WARNER ROBINS, GA — The Community Christian College Georgia Knights battled from start to finish against the Central Georgia Tech Titans, but came up just short on the scoreboard, falling 27–18 in a hard-fought non-conference matchup.

The Knights had opportunities throughout the game and continued to battle until the final whistle against a tough NJCAA opponent.

BURRELL LEADS THE KNIGHTS OFFENSIVELY

Quarterback Elijah Burrell turned in an impressive performance, completing 17 of 34 passes for 424 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown.

Burrell's 424 passing yards gave the Knights a major offensive spark and kept Georgia within striking distance throughout the contest.

Despite producing more than 400 yards through the air, the Knights were unable to turn enough of those opportunities into points to overcome Central Georgia Tech's 27-point total.

KNIGHTS DEFENSE COMES UP BIG

While the offense received plenty of attention, the Knights' defense continued to give Georgia opportunities throughout the game.

The defense came up with multiple key stops in the second half, keeping Central Georgia Tech from pulling away and giving the Knights' offense additional opportunities to make plays.

The Knights' defensive front also created pressure on the Titans' quarterback, helping Georgia remain competitive deep into the game.

Those stops were critical as the Knights continued to battle for momentum.

COACH ROACH: "THE SCOREBOARD DIDN'T TELL THE TOTAL STORY"

Following the game, Head Coach Cedric Roach praised his team's effort and the progress the Knights have made.

“We had a great opportunity to win this ball game versus an NJCAA program. Those guys are very tough. They're big and strong. They really control a lot of the line of scrimmage, but our offensive line held up and our defensive line put a lot of pressure on their quarterback. So I'm proud of our guys on how we performed. We just came up short on the scoreboard.”

Roach emphasized that the final score did not fully reflect the effort and competitiveness displayed by the Knights.

“The scoreboard didn't tell you the total story. You just have to watch the game and see how hard our guys fought.”

The head coach also challenged his team to carry the same level of effort into the remainder of the season.

“As I told my guys, we play this way for the rest of the season and don't worry about the scoreboard, big things are going to happen for us in the end.”

A MEASURING STICK FOR THE KNIGHTS

Although Central Georgia Tech was a non-conference opponent, Coach Roach believes the matchup provided an important measuring stick for the program.

“This was a non-conference game, but it tells us where we're at as a football team. That means we're getting better by the week.”

The Knights showed they could compete physically against a strong NJCAA opponent, with the offensive line holding its ground and the defensive line creating pressure while the defense produced important second-half stops.

NOW, IT'S ON TO MYRTLE BEACH

The Knights will now turn their attention toward their next opponent, the Myrtle Beach Marauders from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

With the Central Georgia Tech game now behind them, Georgia will look to carry the confidence and lessons from Saturday's battle into the next matchup.

“Now we just focus on our next opponent, which will be Myrtle Beach Marauders out of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. So we have to focus on Myrtle Beach now and take this momentum of how we played today.”

The Knights may have come up short 27–18, but the fight, production and defensive stops provided another opportunity for the program to measure its progress.

The scoreboard says 27–18. The film tells a bigger story.

Now the focus shifts.

MYRTLE BEACH.
